Homeopathy: Separating Fact From Fiction
Homeopathy is responsible for the most profound and astonishing examples of healing I have seen with patients, yet it is perhaps the most misunderstood of all natural therapies. To help people gain a greater appreciation for this powerful healing art, I address some of the most common misconceptions about homeopathy and homeopathic treatment:
Fiction: There is no scientific evidence in support of homeopathy.
Fact: There are literally dozens of good quality scientific studies that have shown homeopathy to be both safe and effective. For more information on homeopathic research visit http://www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org/articles-research
Fiction: Homeopathy is another word for herbal medicine or natural medicine.
Fact: Homeopathy is a distinct and unique system of natural medicine that harnesses our body’s own built-in healing forces to overcome disease.
Fiction: Homeopathy cannot be used to treat serious illnesses.
Fact: Homeopathy has a long history of successfully treating even the most serious illnesses. In fact, homeopathy initially gained fame as a result of the impressive success early homeopathic doctors had treating epidemic diseases that routinely killed large numbers of people, such as smallpox, typhoid, and cholera.
Fiction: Homeopathy is not useful in the treatment of acute illnesses, such as colds, flues, and urinary tract infections.
Fact: Homeopathy is very effective at treating all types of acute illnesses and is usually able to not only decrease the severity of a person’s symptoms, but also shorten the length of time a person is sick.
Fiction: Homeopathic treatment works more slowly than drugs.
Fact: Although it can take time to cure a disease entirely, especially long-standing chronic diseases, people treated homeopathically usually begin to feel better rather quickly, at times, more quickly than people treated with traditional medications.
